Dispatches from Asteroid Hopkins

down the river

For a moment i thought i had broken a finger, when i wrestled a cable for a 125A plug into submission. The distribution box for it was located in a tight space, but it could have been worse, with the current temperatures, no matter the wire cross section, every cable almost stiffens to a pole overnight. So while my hands will most certainly hurt tomorrow, i could work in a warm, dry environment.

I was chosen by Kirby, to accompany him to occupational therapy. Before being called in, he and another kid looked at a book about the Super Mario video games. The other kid had a speech impediment, and signed a lot. While i tried to help out with my limited knowledge of sign language, it became clear that the two had no troubles with improvising a way of communication. That was good to see—and a reminder to look out for a class in sign language instead of relying on the few gestures i know.
I got a presentation of the welcome ritual and some focus exercises they tried out last week. The rest of the session, i waited in the designated area; where there is one of the most comfortable couches i've ever sat on.

Another parent from the baseball team asked, if we had prepared any sings or other things for the upcoming tournament. I couldn't answer. It was one of those moments, when i wanted to throw my phone in a river…
