Dispatches from Asteroid Hopkins

A colleague is always telling us, to remind ourselves to keep our eyes open, when we walk through work. And he's right in saying so; people from the rigging crew asked me to replace a few lights on the flies above the stage, which made me think of them as rapidly aging, because the last time i was there, it was as bright as can be. Turns out, no, it wasn't, i'm just used to the environment. So i changed a couple of lamps and in one case, replaced the whole fixture; all the time wondering what else i missed in the haze of routine.

Kirby's class had an excursion to a chocolate manufacturer. He brought home a couple of chocolates he made himself.
We spent the evening looking into Lego sets from his before times, he found an Alien Conquest1 set i got, and from there we discovered Pharao's Quest2, which is also amazing—and to which Kirby stated, he adventurers are the bad guys, the Mummies are defending their homes—, and landed on Atlantis3. First of all, Lego prices back then were amazing, and the Angler Attack4 set is amongst the best things the company ever put out.

The mech got a surprising "Meh" from Kirby.
In a weird twist, he also asked me to look for animated shorts of Imaginext Batman5, which are … hilariously weird; there was not a single line of dialogue spoken in the few things we saw, the characters emote verbally through grunts, laughs, and other noises, say their or other character's name, and they say bye when they leave another's company. In one short, Batman doesn't even bother to show up, instead he remotely directs his vehicles, to apprehend the Penguin, Joker and Mr. Freeze—with Penguin's helicopter using umbrellas as rotors, which looked brilliant.

Listening to a local book podcast, i finally found something i could buy for my Mum. She likes reading, always working through her small stack of books in the same order, and somehow never sets out to get something new. Now, i know and appreciate patterns and repetition, though every now and then, i try something new for the heck of it, and find new rabbit holes; perhaps we can do the same for her with Vea Kaiser's Fabula Rasa6.

Seems like i have to reduce the amount of painkillers i use to numb my body; in the evening i had strong pain radiating from under my right ribcage, which i guess was my liver, giving a status update.
I'm frustrated; in a twist of fate, i got the weekend off, sleeping in or just trying to relax won't be possible, due to additional baseball practice, a game and a surprise visit from the in-laws. And i hate being asked by the Wife if that's okay. Of course it's not, i've spent the last 15 years pulling back from people, avoiding physical contact whenever possible and getting progressively tired…
