On the way back from Kirby's school i walked past a newsagents who had a two-in-one german version of Dr. Slump1. Seems the german publisher Carlsen is re-releasing the whole series in nine of such books. First one cost a fiver, and it's been a few orbits since i read it—got a vinyl of Arale when Toriyama-sama's dead was in the news—and i can't remember how much i liked it; or didn't. So i took it with me.
My Parents picked Kirby up. They built a snowman.
Kirby was surprisingly eager to do homework and learn for a test. He lent out a book about Spider-Man's origin from the school library. We went through it, and Uncle Ben's death was something he always returned to; it seemed to me, he felt guilty for liking Spider-Man, who had to—and still endures—the loss of a person he loved very much. I always try to remind him that it is a story, that Ben is alive when we browse to an earlier section of the book. He's not … naive enough to be distracted by that, he knows, that he will be in a similar situation—the person doesn't need to die, life is an ocean, and most of the time, we can't control where the water takes us, no matter how much we hold onto another…
Had time to do a bit of housework; and while i was at it, i also sorted through my clothes, and got a bag for charity out of it. While i did that, i had The Goonies2 on in the background. Someone at work mentioned it, and i've never seen it in one sitting. The Betamax tape3 at my Grandmothers place began when the boys enter the former restaurant and ended … not long after. Then i saw bits and pieces when i happened to come across it on linear TV. For some reason i confused Sean Astin with Macaulay Culkin in some scenes. It was a fun watch.
The evening i spent with putting on Omnium Gatherum4 by King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizzard while reading the rest of the german issue of The Phantom. Somehow it worked perfectly together. I'm considering subscribing to The Phantom, it tickled that memories of my childhood when i read the odd Phantom strip, saw the different cartoons from King Features5 that had him in it. Anyone else hearing the husky voice whispering »Defenders«?
