Dispatches from Asteroid Hopkins

the best i can do

Kirby brought home a surprise for the Wife and me, which we shouldn't open until christmas. At one point he said what it is, i started uttering random words in a higher volume at the right time.
He told me about a book from the school library, which has Spider-Man's origin story in it. From what he told me about the artwork, it seems they redrew Steve Ditko's for this. Kirby wondered where Gwen and Miles were. It took him a while to understand, that they are recent additions to the Spider-Man canon.

While folding clothes and getting a few things in order, i listened to the latest episode of Das E & U Gespräch, a german podcast about art and pop culture1; which i enjoyed a lot, and made we want to go out and experience the world—then i remembered that means forced interaction with other human beings.

Managed to get a motive for a holiday card done; i'm not satisfied with it, at the moment it's the best i can do.

Watched the third Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and am sure now, that the comic was the best thing about that movie; which is sad, considering the core is a great adventure movie.
To make something out of my sleeplessness, i watched a local made for TV movie, which started interesting, and halfway through decided, it doesn't want to answer any questions, not even discuss possible answers, and ends with a bunch of drunk people. It was about a group of friends and family celebrating christmas after the first covid19 lockdown, which brings together all the different kinds of people and their traumas, trying to make this evening work despite their differences. Of course, it doesn't work out, but like i said, at the end of the movie, everyone is blasted. Which is sad given that even creatives—who do it for money—can't imagine anything other than "we're screwed anyway, good thing we're in an upper-middle class environment, from which we can watch the fires".
