tatters

Storytime:
My family was not poor, rather living the solid paycheck to paycheck life, with increasing amounts of money to put away. In the early days, during which i was born. We bought used toys and books, amongst which was a Mazinger1 vinyl figure—that came apart at some point—, and a german collection of Superman stories.

The figure of Mazinger started my interest in eastern pop-culture, and that Superman book introduced me to Mister Miracle2 and Doctor Fate3, two of my favourite comic characters. And it has the cover of Shazam gegen Superman on the back, which is an amazing piece by Rich Buckler.

Do you hear the punch? Altough it's in space, so it can't be heard.

So i browsed through the listing of a comic shop i buy single issues from, when i want a physical copy, and they had a pristine copy of the Superman book.
When i took it out of its protective bag, i realised how fragile and unreliable memory is. The book is much smaller and thinner than i remembered it. And while it is a pristine copy, it just misses a coupon for some other book from the publisher. Still, you have to be careful browsing through it, otherwise it'll end up like the original copy, in tatters.

I also read some new comics:
Guess i'll quit on Nights until the next collection. This arc felt like a much to long set up.
The Power Fantasy … well happened, which sounds too negative; it's a good series, in the afterword to this issue it's mentioned, that issue 17 will take longer to come out, and i wonder what it'll present to us.
Continued with Happy!. Urasawa knows how to play on his reader's emotional keyboard, and i want to know where and how he ends it. I'm on volume 17, and there aren't too many silver linings, and the protagonist sadly has been the least featured character of its comic, her matches often run in the background of other things happening. Six volumes left.
