Dispatches from Asteroid Hopkins

Sore and cranky

I felt that week. Waded through the day in a sore condition, tired and cranky. My body can't handle air conditioned buildings.

We went out to get a few things to read for Kirby. For fun, he got himself a Lego Batman magazine for the Batman minifigure that came with it — he complained about the cape being made of a flexible plastic instead of fabric. While browsing, i discovered that the shop stacked Weissblech Commics1. Took a copy of Bella Star with me, on its cover, the speechbubbles announced the setting: Koth, der Scheisseplanet (Koth, the shitplanet). Kirby read the cover text, instead of »Scheisse«, he used »Stinke«, making it the »Smellyplanet«. A clerk oversaw and heard that, and nodded in agreement.
We sat down at an italian restaurant for some ice cream, except me of course. I ordered a glass of coke which i only took a sip of. On the escalator down to the tube, Kirby asked what that smell was. That's when i realized, this station — and a major part of vienna's subway stations — hasn't changed it smell since my childhood. It always smelled of a mixture of stale plastic and feces.

Finally was able to unpack the Nintendo Pro Controller 2, a surprisingly well made piece of a human interface device. Still prefer the 8bitdo Ultimate 2.

The Wife disassembled Kirby's bed. His new one will arrive this week, five weeks earlier than we were initially told. It felt adventurous for Kirby, to sleep on the floor — on a mattress of course, which we placed on a tatami mat. I fear his hearing has taken a turn for the worse over the last couple of days.
