Dispatches from Asteroid Hopkins

small coachman

Kirby's class wrote the first graded test. He did not loose a word about how he felt about it, or how the general feeling of the class was. What gave us a glimpse of his inner life in context with the test, was his behavior shift, when the time came to get dressed and head out. He became loud and unruly. He cussed like a small coachman.
When i picked him up from school, all seemed forgotten.
In his sleep, he talked about setting up a playdate, yet couldn't remember who he talked with after he woke up.

We drove to my parent's place and brought my Dad his belated birthday present, the second volume of the Asterix Omnibus line of comics.

Watched Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, which isn't as overhyped as i anticipated. It truly is an exercise in every aspect of the movie making process, and a fitting interpretation of the book for the times; however, the showcase of practical effects and sets is polished with a veneer, that gives it a digital look—due to color grading?—, and why did del Toro decided not to expand Elisabeth's role, and removed the youngest Frankenstein brother? Ok, removing the brother "saves" the creature, who in the book, murders the kid for being a Frankenstein, which would remove the mostly innocent nature of this version of the creature; and Elisabeth's passive portrayal is actually part of the book/her character/a comment on then contemporary literature, as far as i remember.
As i said, it's a good sit, gold stars all around, except for my two minor gripes. It was good to see Netflix of all places hand out the money to finance this; it is bad that we most likely will never see a physical copy of the movie.
