Witnessed an amazing soundcheck. One of the venues i work at, hosted a small orchestra, who had the whole day for rehearsals. Two years ago, the sound department got a new PA for the venue, and the process of buying it was a drag due to the project costs necessitating an open call for bids, which became a shit throwing contest between companies. BUT, the sound guys had a plan and hired a law firm to handle the process, and due to them found a smaller company with a great product who at the end got the contract.
And are we glad they did. It has been a while, that i spent my breaks listening to a performance. The acoustics of the place aren't the best—although we have worse places—, nonetheless, hearing a classical orchestra get in tune and play was a delight. The details i was able to hear … i've lost some of my hearing capabilities over the years—use hearing protection! even when going grocery shopping in a city—, here, i felt like i could hear anything. A nice moment at work that reminded me, that we need to get rid of all the bullshit surrounding the art that happens here.
Kirby had some wild follow up questions to "How did Sandman—Flint Marco—get his powers?" How do you fire a gun? Do soldiers carry shields? Are tanks save? What is made out of chemistry? We talked for about an hour, lying in his bed. Then he turned around and fell asleep.
Tojima wants to be a Kamen Rider—the anime adaption—is sadly, wasted time, as far as the first two episodes are concerned. Perhaps it'll take up steam. The sequences showing the Heisei era shows are brilliant seconds of animation.
Also read the first issue of The Maxx. Forgot how "faithful" the adaption of the comic for MTV's oddity series was. Would be interesting to hear Sam Keith's thoughts about the comic today.
