We played a few of the 2D Sonic video games—1-3 and CD—and it helped me remember why my brother and i only rented Sega consoles to play … the only thing i can remember is the Streets of Rage series and Phantasy Star. We did buy a Dreamcast which my brother took with him, when he moved out.
Back to Sonic: Those games have not aged well, and for the person typing this, they seem to have been made from half-done design documents. One has to appreciate the effort and the conveyance of speed, yet, »Sega does what Nintendon't«--or »Genesis does…«--, seems to acknowledge my sentiment, to give their mascot not only one bad game.
To be clear: i'm not the biggest Mario supporter either, those games only feel made with the players in mind.
