Dispatches from Asteroid Hopkins

dragged across the page

My bluetooth headphones stopped working for good this time. Used the coupons i had collected over the last couple of years and grabbed a pair of Nothing ear (2024). They need to be tuned to one's preferences the ANC is good for my taste, and the price is alright, even if i had payed the full price.

Picked up Donkey Kong Bananza on the way home. The time to listen to reviews seems to be over. The game looks and plays rather well, people forget they're alive. Kirby enjoyed the opportunity to mow through the environment; i have to teach him, that he can't rely on me to play through every game for him. Before we played, we had a two hour drama caused by his refusal to do some homework. I don't understand why his teacher gave class homework for their summer break, there is a lot of evidence that it rather stresses the kids further, instead of helping them. But: here it is, and it only takes up ten minutes a week, or two minutes a day. With the reading exercises, we agreed on him deciding what he wants to read, from comic to book. If he wants to take a picture, painting, or photo he enjoys, he can write a description of it if he'd like. Two hours for two minutes… Yes, that's parenting. I'm so tired.

Read some comics before going to bed:
•) Absolute Flash no.5 is the complete opposite of the idea of the fastest man alive. The story drags itself across the page; in the hands of a lesser writer than Jeff Lemire, it wouldn't work.
•) Death of the Silver Surfer no.2 was great. It was nice to see the original Punisher1 again.
•) Batman and Robin: Year One no.9 was again, a great read. Kirby recently asked me why Batman seems to be so stern, while Dick Grayson is more light hearted, and there is one possible explanation in this issue.
•) The New Gods no.8 has the same trouble as the whole of mainstream superhero comics—writing for the trade with only 22 pages of space—, and while the story seems to have hit the pause button, it's … «vibing».

Also watched the first two episodes of the new Foundation season; the good thing is, that it's been about 23 years since i last read anything Asimov, and by then i didn't get everything, so i can't say if it's a good translation into another medium. It's good fun. Lee Pace is a joy to watch in every season. The Mule was described as frail looking in the book. Or lanky?

The trailer for Tron: Ares2 is … i like the idea while i dislike it, with Jared Leto tipping the scale towards «Don't even care.» Wonder if the soundtrack will work.
