among humans
Work was frustrating. Over the summer, we got new light fixtures as ambient light in a smaller venue we're overseeing. I was finally able to take a look at them; the whole room feels sorted out now, it's not overwhelming with the deep hanging lights. Now comes the weird part, the new lamps, although they are dedicated architecture lights, can't mix white light. It's due to a firmware error, and now we're waiting for an update. We live in a world, where a lamp can be ruined with a software update. Those models of lamps were bought, due to their DMX connectivity, all other candidates were controlled with Art Net or another RF45 wired protocol; the firmware update was needed, to make the DMX circuit boards work, and guess who were the first to buy those… Well, at least we're on the cutting edge of yesterdays technology. We already refitted two other venues with CAT6 cable, so we can finally use network based protocols, and before i started rehab, i was under the impression, that with the new lights, we'll get CAT cables as well. And it's the same with everything else, there were discussions about the price of velcro closures.
I talked with my Boss about the show on Monday. From the rider we received, it seems nobody told them about the actual height of the room the band will be performing in. With their trussing hanging in the configuration they'd like, the lamps will hang a hand's width over their head. I must admit, i'm nervous to fearful…
Kirby went to baseball practice, and was very happy about getting a helmet. "Now we can do this." he said, and softly bumped his helmet on the helmet of his catcher; it seems that this was the unofficial greeting among the team. It's a joy the see him move as he do. The trainer stated again, that he's a "backbone player"; Kirby's not exceeding in a certain position, he's a solid performer in whatever he does, and the team currently doesn't have enough of those.
Kamen Rider Zeztz … i got to watch the first two episodes—and remembered that VPNs do still work—, and it's fine. Not particularly great or bad, it just is a new Kamen Rider show, that starts with an interesting premise—lucid dreaming—and waters it down very early. What stands out for me, is the design of the main suit; the belt became a sling and freed up space—Drive had a similar thing going on with a tire, which im combination with the belt, made his torso look small, while enlarging the helmet. The whole suit design reminds me of the lanky design of Ishinamori's Kamen Rider Manga. Having dreams as a theme, it makes the lanky main suit look like something a dreaming person could come up as a defender against nightmares. I'll watch the third episode, to get an ending to the current story.
Watched an episode of No.1 SentaiGozyuger—the current Super Sentai series; and that episode, 24, beat the detective one—which beat the "back to the showa age" one—in terms of goofing around. Only Candle was missing in the mix.
Couldn't sleep, so i watched Grizzly Man (2005), a documentary about Timothy Treadwell, who for 13 years undertook expeditions to Alaska, to observe Grizzly bears. One the one hand, i'm impressed by his tenacity, and Werner Herzog does his best to always show us, that he acted out of love … but it seemed to me, he was getting less of what initially fueled him in the wild with every visit. He clearly wanted an escape from his life among humans, and it seems over time, the bears became a less viable substitute.
