Dispatches from Asteroid Hopkins

early listening

Finally »found out« — as in: remembered that i could use a search engine to look it up — why »Nimrod« is known as an acronym for a clumsy person: because Bugs Bunny teased Elmer Fudd by calling him Nimrod1.
And there is an X-Men villain called Nimrod2.

Allergy season started off abruptly for me. So off i went to the ENT, to get a prescription for that nasal spray he gave me last year, which added a whiff of stale wardrobe to every smell, while reducing the allergic reaction to a minor inconvenience for most of the day. And not a day too early, as some plants started to bloom, and the local warning service's colour coded forecast, moves from yellow to deep red over the next couple of days.
While the ENT had me available, he had me do a hearing test, that showed my left ear to be 30 years younger than its counterpart.
Because it fits the topic: i've lost one of my hearing protection plugs somewhere at work — i could bite my own rear, when i ordered a new set of plugs, i knew they changed the product sizes, and should have gotten a new container, due to them not fitting entirely safe in the old one. I had been carrying around the idea of finally getting a pair of fitted hearing protectors, yet couldn't find a product that had at least almost the ratings of my old ones. A company sent me a set of their filters—the plugs themselves i had to pay for—, to test how well they perform. They took the edge off the audible sensation of everyday life, but they need to reduce the sound of a diesel engine that moves a generator to a distant highway, to be of use.

I'm planning to move over all the media posts to a separate blog. I had a watchlist on my old blog; making lists is something that soothes me.
